The Orkneyjar Autonomist Movement was founded in 2006 by Alexander Tatcher. We have fielded independent candidates in most of the elections before our establishment as a political party in Orkney Islands..



The Orkneyjar Autonomist Movement - policies


Policies of the OAM are always designed to further the principles and aims of the Charter below.

THE CHARTER OF THE ORKNEYJAR AUTONOMIST MOVEMENT
(adopted 1 April 2006, with amendments to 2 January 2007)

The Orkneyjar Autonomist Movement contracts with the people of Orkney to strive for and achieve six fundamental aims and principles -

IDENTITY

To promote the cultural and economic identity of Orkney.

AUTONOMY

To bring into existence devolved, direct democracy in order to give the people of Orkney maximum control over their own lives.

QUALITY

To optimise the quality of life for everyone residing, working in or visiting the islands.

ENVIRONMENT

To minimise the adverse impact of human activity on the environment.

THE WORLD

To contribute to the creation of a sustainable and equitable global economy in which the health, security and liberty of all is paramount, regardless of race or creed.

ENJOYMENT

To make the whole process of politics relevant and enjoyable.

The Orkneyjar Autonomist Movement are committed to the most appropriate degree of self determination for Orkney within the context of a new United Kingdom of regions. We are working closely with the other organizations in the setting up of an assembly/parliament and fully support the Orkney Society in its aim of promoting the history, culture and dialect of Orkney.
